Jennings started as a volunteer with the Johnson County Fire District in 1976, rose to the rank of Chief in 1996, and became the career Chief in 2007. In addition to his dedication to Johnson County, his commitment to public service includes serving as a dispatcher, law enforcement officer, and fire investigator for the Missouri Division of Fire Safety and American Family Insurance Co.

Chief Jennings has been passionate and dedicated to providing quality continuing education to Missouri’s fire service, serving as an instructor, a PFFIA Director, and president of the Firefighters Association of Missouri. He has been instrumental in the development and continued support of fire investigators.


The Harry Hanson Award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution toward advancing fire investigation in the State of Missouri.
